custom orders & waitlist
thanks for your interest in placing either a custom order or adding yourself to my waitlist for one in the future. I make in cycles, which means that it can be some time in between when im actively starting new pieces, and when I am in the glazing & finishing stage.
Below are some commonly asked questions about custom orders & my waitlist.
if you still have questions, feel free to reach out to me directly.
commonly asked questions
are customs more expensive?
custom orders are generally priced the same or similar to my 'regular stock' items.
unless you are looking for something that requires purchase of specific materials or goes above and beyond my usual making process, the price doesn't change.
how long does it take?
how long it will be until your custom order is ready depends entirely on where i am in my making cycle.
i am not a full time maker, i have a full time job on top of making pottery so it can be a long time from when you ask to join the list to when your piece can be ready.
i make in cycles, which means that I am focused on one (of many) stages at once to make the most use of my small studio space. this means that if what you're looking for isn't already in some stage of the pottery life cycle, you need to wait until i'm starting a brand new cycle of making.
you can leave the waitlist any time. I check in with each person before i start making their piece.
is a deposit required?
a deposit is only required if your piece is super custom in a way that i could not re-sell the piece if you change your mind.
I confirm that a piece or pieces are still desired before i begin my work, a deposit at that time will be required for very custom orders.
think: someone's name, something very personal to them or anything that would make selling that item in my store difficult because it's too specific/customized.
why won't you make plates for me?
i am not accepting plates / dinnerware as custom orders.
plates are very challenging to make in large batches because they take extra time to dry, require extra space in the kiln and are very prone to warping and cracking.
the amount of pieces i would need to make to accumulate a full set, plus spares is a huge undertaking of time and materials and multiple kiln firings just for your order. I cannot justify this as a part time maker.
can you ship to me?
yep! I ship anywhere in Canada, and other locations could be possible just currently not set up for general sales. I am only NOT shipping to the USA right now for... reasons.
is this different than pre-orders?
yes! customs and pre-orders are different.
the way my pre-orders work is I will announce a design/style/piece that I am opening up for pre-orders and will state the quantity i am planning to offer in this pre-order.
I only launch a pre-order when I am ready to make them, so the turn around time is much shorter (2-3 weeks). The limit is based on how many pieces I have on hand to be able to fulfill the pre-orders in that style.
payment is due upfront to secure your spot in the pre-order.
